AutoClassics Car Club
Are
you looking for an excuse to get out and about in your
classic?
We are organising a regular run (approx.
once a month) to interesting places; hopefully to some
places you haven't been before.
Our aim is to create a classic family who meet
from time to time to enjoy our cars and each other's
casual company and camaraderie.
Our runs are
informal and gentle. We have frequent stops which are
often impromptu, to allow cars to gather up into convoy
if they have been split up in traffic.
All our
classic cars are encouraged to travel at normal speed in
normal traffic. Slower cars are encouraged to allow
faster traffic to pass easily.

ROSS FOR MAYOR ROSS FOR MAYOR
Yes, I'm standing for council and for Mayor of Kapiti
Too many of us think about it but never quite get around to it.
I just feel the timing is right for me to say what I think.
I'm positive about the future of Kapiti. We need to establish a positive attitude.
We need to open up the roads for our own good, and for the good of all NZ'ers travelling
through our region.
We need to develop the airport, and take advantage of any other developments,
that will provide jobs and opportunities.
We need to give some hope and future to all the young minds in our schools and colleges.
We need to concentrate on core spending, and delete any extravangances from our rates bill.
"Let's get together, let's get positive!".

Dannevirke "Wheels With Attitude" Car display
10 Autoclassics cars headed off on the 2 hour drive to Dannevirke
A lovely days outing, with an amazing array of cars, trucks, vans, tractors, engines, and other
stuff to be seen. The only negative was the long queues for coffee and hotdogs, but
even that wasn't a big deal: it's a great time to chat, and enjoy the anticipation of a hotdog
in the park! A very pleasant day all round.

Saturday 12 December 2009
Wairarapa Excursion
Just 4 intrepid enthusiasts left Autoclassics at 9.00am
By the time they reached Lake Ferry they had gathered up about 30 fellow entusaists
along the way, at Haywards Hill, Upper Hutt, and Featherston.
The weather was, sadly, as the Met office predicted - they got it right for once.
Showers to begin with and then windy, very windy, in the Wairarapa.
So close to Christmas, and so little sunshine. Still, some classic car enthusiasts will
go anywhere, anyway.
John and Jenny, with Tony, smile bravely before heading off into the inclement weather.
John and Jenny's Peugeot, and Tony's Z3, flank Robbies Mercedes

October 2009
Both my race cars have sold. Boo Hoo!!!!!!!!!
I haven't raced much this year - time and tide have been against me.
However, I do have plans for next year. Watch this space.
And with both race cars having sold, there is no excuse not to get the new project underway.
It's a big V8 - that's all I'll say at this stage.

Odd Balls
Even the slightly "ecentric" classic cars find an owner. Both the Fuego and the
Montego Turbo are off to new homes.

2009 British Car Day
Always a great day out, this year was no exception.
And it was such a hardship having to drive a V8 Aston Martin over there. Yeah right!!!!
A lovely bunch of 40 enthusiasts in 20 cars made it a super run and a special day.

Recent Runs
2 recent runs gathered about 20 enthusiasts each time for runs to
Palmerston North and to the Tui Brewery in Mangatainoka.
The Tui Brewery is a run that is thoroughly recommended. Enjoy a guided tour through
the lovely old premises. And the wind farm is always worth a look.

So no excuse not to use our Classics.

Car Day at Trentham, and the next Sunday we headed to Shannon for

So it was all on for all summer!

great cars and 30 even greater people created a super
convoy to Hawera. Frequent stops along the way to pick
up classics at Waikanae, Manakau, Levin, and Turakina.
Then on through Wanganui to Hawera. The Tawhiti
Museum is a must see - amazing. Go and relive the
memories and just enjoy. You can spend hours there. The
food and coffee is great
too!.

The
BIG REVEAL DAY: 08.07.2007
50 people turned
up on a beautiful clear winters day to see what was
under the cover. The sausages sizzled and the tea and
coffee was piping hot.
A great day to reveal the
beautiful 1948 Fraser Nash Le Mans. Thanks to all those
who came to see this amazing piece of history. Thanks
too, to our mascot, Mary, for taking so many great
photos!

That's
Mascot Mary under the hat, meeting and greeting at the
Fraser Nash launch. Note the close inspections from both
the young hoodee brigade and the seasoned
veteran.
ANZAC Day - run to The Redhouse Cafe,
Te Horo..
13 cars and 25 people enjoyed a
quiet mornings run and brunch at the Redhouse in Te
Horo. The food and atmoshpere was
excellent.
An excellent day all round, though
even best laid plans go awry. Who would have expected
that the local Anzac Parade would be so big that the
cars had to detour - and thus miss some vital clues!. Oh
well............... |

OUR
CHRISTMAS SAUSAGE SIZZLE CRUISE EVENT
32
Classic Cars and 70 people picked the one fine night of
summer we've had so far this season, and had a one hour
run around Paraparaumu and Raumati on Monday night 18th
December. Then we had a sausage sizzle at Autoclassics.
Jan and Bob Stott won the Christmas Hamper for most
correct answers to the route questions and general
knowledge questions. Congratulations! A lot of fun was
had by all. Locals enjoyed seeing the convoy of
Citroens, Zephyrs, Triumphs, MG's, Jaguars, BMW's, et
al.

OUR
WAIRARAPA TOUR EVENT
Despite the Summer (Yeah
right!!!!) weather, 25 cars and 50 people headed off for
the day. An 8,30am start meant we were in Martinborough
by 10.30 for morning tea. We picked up fellow tourers at
Haywards and Upper Hutt and Featherston on the way. Then
we headed into the back roads of the Wairarapa before
heading to Greytown for lunch. Even getting lost doesn't
bother classic motorists, who just enjoy the drive and
sometimes don't even realise that our intrepid local
leader has gone the wrong way!!! Just as well he did
really, because the 10 minute delay may have meant we,
as a convoy, were not involved in the awful accident we
came across a little bit later in the journey. A car
speared head on across our side of the highway about 10
minutes before we arrived.
Lunch in Greytown was
followed by a lovely drive, in heavy, and sometimes
driving, rain, around the backroads between Masterton
and Eketahuna. Charles Clark found some great driving
roads - thanks Charles!. Then Gay and Bill Baxter, who
are such good organisers, and keen enthusiasts, led the
convoy from Eketahuna on over the Pahiatua Track from
where people dispersed for home. Thanks Gay and
Bill.
Thanks to all who came from far and wide to
enjoy the day. As Clive (he of the vast white Corvette)
Newman, said later, that was a long one. We covered 378
kms and had a great time doing it.

OUR
INAUGURAL EVENT
On October 15th we gathered
18 classic cars and 32 equally classic people together
and headed off for Sanson and Bulls via some lovely back
roads.
Lunch was enjoyed at Woodlands near
Sanson, and the convoy then headed home via Opiki and
Levin. Afternoon tea at the Clydesdale Cafe just north
of Levin was a welcome break.
It was great to see
so many of the AUTOclassics cars, including Porsche's,
Jaguar's, Triumph's, and of course MG's. Thanks to all
those who made this such a neat First
Event.

100
SOLD!!!
We sold our 100th classic car last
week, just as we are packing up to move to the new
premises. The first sale at our new home will be the One
Hundred and Oneth!!! Or should that the One Hundred and
First? |
|

OUR
MOVE
Why is it that everything takes longer
than you think and costs more too!
While I
thought I had planned the move pretty carefully, it's
been more effort than I imagined. Still, nearly there
and looking forward to being permanently installed at
386 Kapiti Road.
Thanks to all those who've
called in and been so encouraging, and special thanks to
all those who have helped out. Particularly GT, and of
course Frances. |
